Southwest York Region is one of Canada's fastest growing communities. To meet the growing demand for health services, Mackenzie Health is planning for the development of a major regional health system. Our project envisions one hospital corporation that will oversee two hospitals including the existing Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Our two-hospital model for health services in Southwest York Region promises an integrated health system for patients that will deliver care closer to home.
During the summer of 2011, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Deb Matthews, announced the approval of a new hospital in Vaughan. This announcement also confirmed that the new hospital has been added to Ontario’s infrastructure plan!
We are excited about our plans for future health services that will serve Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Vaughan, Markham and surrounding communities. Throughout the planning process we will continuously seek input and perspective from our key stakeholders including patients, community members, staff, physicians, community groups and health partners in order to bring needed services to our community.
Under our unified project vision for our two-hospital model – “Connecting You With Tomorrow’s Health Care” – we will work toward bringing the best available practices, the newest technologies and innovative models of care to enrich the health and well-being of our diverse community.
