Mackenzie Health Opened in 1963 (formerly York Central Hospital), Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital is a large community hospital located in Richmond Hill providing Emergency, Inpatient, Ambulatory, Continuing and Long-Term Care services to a community of over 500,000 residents in Southwest York Region. In 2009, the hospital received an expanded mandate from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to plan for the further development of the existing Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital site and the building of a new hospital in Vaughan. In addition to the services it currently provides to the community of Southwest York Region.
Mackenzie Health is the District Stroke Centre for York Region and is home to a number of regional services including: the York Region Chronic Kidney Disease Program, York Region Domestic Assault and Sexual Assault Care Centre, and the York/Simcoe Behaviour Management and Autism Programs.

Mackenzie Health is a major regional healthcare provider formed to serve Southwest York Region, one of Canada’s fastest growing communities. Mackenzie Health will include two hospitals and a network of community based services, helping create a world-class health experience to meet the growing needs of our community.
The two hospitals include: Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital (formerly known as York Central Hospital) and the future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Both hospitals will offer core healthcare services. With a population of close to 1.8 million15 (13.2%* of Ontario’s population), Central LHIN has the most residents of all LHINs and is among the most diverse (48%* of population is immigrants) and one of the fastest growing.
By 2021, Central LHIN’s population will have grown by 20.3%* since 2011 – one of the highest projected rates among the LHINs, and seniors will comprise 16.1%* of all residents.
Health Status:
Central LHIN has one of the lowest hospitalization and ED utilization rates in the province; and health status indicators are better than the Ontario average overall.
