Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital
Mackenzie Health includes Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, as well as a comprehensive network of community-based services in Richmond Hill, Vaughan and surrounding communities.
Nationally recognized for its commitment to safety and quality patient care, Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital is home to many specialized services including regional expertise for the York Region District Stroke Centre, York Region Chronic Kidney Disease Program, York Region Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault (DASA) Care Centre, York-Simcoe Brain Injury Services and the Centre for Behaviour Health Sciences.
Over its 50-year history, the hospital has grown in both physical size and in the range and sophistication of its services to meet the health care needs of one of Canada's fastest growing communities. When the hospital opened its doors as York Central Hospital in 1963, it offered a 126-bed state-of-the-art hospital with a staff of 200 and an annual operating budget of $1.1 million dollars. At that time, the hospital served a community of approximately 25,000 residents. Today, Mackenzie Health serves a community of more than 550,000 including Richmond Hill, Vaughan, King and the surrounding communities.
To keep pace with that growth, Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital has grown tremendously over the years adding the Langstaff Wing now known as C-wing in 1974, the Centre for Continuing Care and Rehabilitation now known as A-wing in 2000, and the Town of Richmond Hill Wing now known as D-wing in 2009. From its humble beginnings in November of 1963, Mackenzie Health is a two-hospital organization with the opening of Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital in 2021.
