Pouring the fourth floor!
We’re pleased to report that construction of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is right on schedule. Level 4 is currently being poured for the Woman and Child program, which is dedicated to the care of new mothers and their babies as well as children. Here, families will welcome new babies in our comfortable and inviting Birthing Centre featuring Labour/Birthing/Recovery and Postpartum rooms or receive care for babies and children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Gucciardi Family Inpatient Pediatric Unit and the Pediatric Urgent Care Clinic.
We’re also excited to report on the great progress made on Levels 0-3. Level 0 will be home to the two-level food court, retail space and medical device reprocessing connected by Lower Main Street, generously sponsored by Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada. Level 1 will be dedicated to the main entrance, the Vic De Zen Family Welcome Centre, Magna Emergency, Medical Imaging, Patient Registration, the Spiritual Care Centre and the region’s first-of-its-kind Learning Centre with a simulation lab. The critical care unit and the state-of-the-art operating suites will be located on Level 2, which are among the most specialized areas of the hospital, and the laboratory and inpatient pharmacy, as well as the mechanical systems for the hospital, will be located on Level 3.
An Inviting Welcome
Public spaces at the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be bright, inviting and fully accessible, welcoming patients, staff and visitors. Construction is well underway to create the foundation for a number of these spaces, including the library and the Vic De Zen Family Welcome Centre. Another feature that is really starting to take shape is what some of us are calling “the link” – formally known as the Christopher and Franca Zeppa and Family Cascading Garden Link. This serene indoor corridor between the parking arcade and the hospital will run parallel to the beautifully landscaped cascading garden and will feature seating and amenities.
