We’re pouring the top floor!
We’re excited to announce that we’ve poured one of the final concrete slabs at the top of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital – 11 stories high and hundreds of feet in the air. At yesterday’s official topping off ceremony, we were joined by the Honourable Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care; Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan, Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure; the Honourable Michael Tibollo, MPP Vaughan-Woodbridge, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services; and the Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of Vaughan, to celebrate reaching the highest point of construction and getting closer to opening our doors in late 2020.
To celebrate this major milestone, thousands of tokens signed by donors, hospital staff, physicians, volunteers, leadership and government were poured into one of the final concrete slabs. Topping off represents building a future with greater access to exceptional patient-centred care. We are thrilled to work together with our community partners, patients and families alongside staff, physicians and volunteers at Mackenzie Health to make this future possible.
October 25 is a memorable day in Mackenzie Health’s history. Two years ago, our hospital leadership and community partners joined together to break ground at the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street. Inspired by our community’s hopes for world-class health care close to home, we looked up to the promising future of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Yesterday, we reached the top!
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be the first new hospital to be built in York Region in more than 30 years and the first-ever hospital in the City of Vaughan. Scheduled to open in late 2020, the 1.2 million sq. ft., state-of-the art facility will feature fully-integrated ‘smart’ technology systems and medical devices – a national first for any community hospital. Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will also be home to modern surgical and operating rooms, advanced medical imaging, medicine, birthing (obstetrics), pediatrics, mental health services and more.
Caring for our growing community
For patients and families, world-class health care close to home could not be more urgent. Together, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital alongside its community-based locations will care for one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, expected to grow by 25 per cent between 2012-2027. Increased access to high-quality health care aims to support a healthier, growing community while easing hospital overcrowding and wait time issues.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, Mackenzie Health Foundation has raised more than $113 million to date towards our $250 million campaign goal. Thank you!
