Vaughan/Richmond Hill, ON (September 25, 2018) – John A. D’Angelo, Giuseppe Maio and Claudio Memme of leading Canadian real estate investment company HBNG Holborn Group (HBNG) today announced a $2-million gift towards the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. This gift will help build the main courtyard with cascading gardens, designed for patients and families as an essential therapeutic space for recreation, socialization and respite.
“As we gain more knowledge around the delivery of health care, there is an understanding that a holistic approach, one that also recognizes mental and social factors in addition to the physical symptoms of a disease, leads to better outcomes,” shared John A. D’Angelo, Giuseppe Maio and Claudio Memme. “It is our hope that with this gift we can help contribute to the well-being of not only patients but also their families.”
Designed to support patients’ overall health and wellness, the main courtyard with cascading gardens helps bring to life Mackenzie Health’s vision of a world-class patient experience. Lush greenery and open spaces create calming and restful areas for patients and families who are awaiting or undergoing care and treatment, or who need relief during stressful times.
“The generosity and leadership of John, Giuseppe and Claudio will help create new possibilities for patients and families to thrive during their health care journey,” says Ingrid Perry, President and CEO, Mackenzie Health Foundation. “Building a hospital is about more than bricks and mortar. It’s about building the best patient experience – from the minute our patients enter, to the moment they leave. This exceptional gift will help us create the hospital our community deserves.”
Mackenzie Health Foundation’s $250-million Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign is spearheaded by a dedicated 33-member cabinet co-chaired by Greg Sorbara and the Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of the City of Vaughan.
“Today’s celebration recognizes the spirit of generosity that is evident throughout our city. Our compassionate citizens and businesses are committed to safeguarding, improving and elevating the quality of life for our community and beyond,” says Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Co-Chair of the Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign. “I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to John, Giuseppe and Claudio for their selfless, thoughtful and generous contribution to Mackenzie Health Foundation. This donation marks another historic milestone for the residents of Vaughan, front-line health care professionals and the ongoing construction of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Building this hospital is about investing in the health and well-being of our citizens and ensuring we all have access to the best possible medical care for generations to come.”
“We’re grateful for this gift and the leadership of John, Giuseppe and Claudio,” says Greg Sorbara, Co-Chair of the Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign. “This gift will support the continued growth of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and have a comforting impact in the lives of both patients and families.”
Scheduled to open in late 2020, the 1.2 million sq. ft., state-of-the art hospital will feature fully integrated “smart” technology systems and medical devices – marking a national first for any community hospital. Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be the first hospital to be built in York Region in more than 30 years and the first-ever hospital in the City of Vaughan.
The Foundation has committed to raising $250 million in community contributions toward the total $1.6-billion project cost. Thanks to many generous donations already received, including this most recent gift, the Foundation has raised $113 million to date.
