His gift will be recognized with the naming of David Braley Tower at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital
Few can claim the level of influence and passion David Braley held in the Canadian sports landscape. David established a thriving business in his hometown of Hamilton, and then broadened his focus towards championing Canadian sports, culture and health.
While David was more publicly known for his ownership of multiple CFL teams, he and his wife Nancy Gordon were also quietly dedicated philanthropists in medical research and communities throughout southern Ontario.
His deep involvement in the CFL over many decades earned him recognition in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Order of Canada in 2019. David also served as an active Canadian senator in Ottawa. While these achievements were more public, David was also steadfastly involved in the business community of Vaughan for over two decades and was a firm believer in accessible projects that would benefit everyone within a community.
Wherever he directed his energy — towards family, business, sports or philanthropy — he moved with tremendous determination. For that, he is remembered as a Canadian icon. His legacy and gift will resonate with all those who walk through the doors of Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital for generations to come.
