Monday, June 6 marked one year since Mackenzie Health made history when we opened Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and became a two-hospital organization.
To mark the occasion, Mackenzie Health leadership joined government and community partners and donors at a special event in the Giovanni DeGasperis ¨ Eugene Kohn Learning Centre at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital.
Opening our second hospital was a remarkable feat and we couldn’t have done it without the support and hard work of so many people. Becoming two hospitals was truly a collaborative effort.
From our municipal and regional partners who provided the land and made significant financial contributions, to our provincial partners who approved the project and provided a majority of the funding for it, our government partners have stood by our side from the start.
Our external partners including the project consortium, architects, project consultants and vendors delivered the hospital on time and on budget.
Our generous donors contributed to our $250 million Ultimate campaign raising funds for the local share of the hospital project.
Our staff, physicians and volunteers stepped up each day to get our second hospital ready to care for our community while also caring for high volumes of patients during the evolving environment of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Celebrating the Mackenzie Health team
Mackenzie Health staff, physicians and volunteers at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and our network of community-based locations all enjoyed a birthday BBQ celebration this week.
Our one-year anniversary of becoming two hospitals was also a special opportunity for us to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the Mackenzie Health team of staff, physicians and volunteers.
Their hard work over the past two years working to open a new hospital in the midst of a global pandemic is something worth celebrating – so we (safely!) threw a birthday party at both of our hospitals and our community-based locations to show our appreciation for all that they do!

You may have heard the buzz: Mackenzie Health Foundation’s $250-million Ultimate campaign milestone has been reached!
Last week, Mackenzie Health made some exciting announcements! At the 2022 Vaughan Mayor’s Gala on Wednesday, June 1, HBNG Holborn Group announced their commitment to making a transformational gift of $30 million. Also, Canadian real estate developer Mitchell Goldhar announced a $10-million gift to Mackenzie Health.
These incredible announcements mark a breakthrough moment for the Ultimate campaign –– the largest campaign ever undertaken by a community hospital in Canada and one that has forever transformed health care in York Region.
This historic milestone is the result of years of generosity from more than 15,000 donors and the dedication of many hardworking fundraising volunteers. Together, we are bringing the ultimate in health care to everyone in the communities we serve!
What’s next?
Mackenzie Health will continue to rally donors, physicians, staff, patients, and people from across York Region and beyond to continuously invest in the life-changing work taking place at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, and our network of community-based locations.
Above and beyond our $250-million milestone, our collective fundraising efforts will ensure a steady flow of resources to attract the very best talent, advance excellence in our programs and services, and secure the latest equipment and technology as we focus on providing the best possible outcomes for every patient.
