As a nod to one of her favourite books, Atomic Habits by James Clear, we sat down with Nicole McCahon, President & CEO of Mackenzie Health Foundation and wrote a spin-off of his popular 3-2-1 Newsletter. This special newsletter reflects on her first year at the Foundation, sharing highlights and providing a glimpse into her leadership approach.
3 MEMORABLE MOMENTS
1. “I will never forget some of my first donor tours — in fact, the first one I attended was on my fourth day. We toured a group through Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital to celebrate their gift towards The Ultimate Suits You campaign. Fundraising is very much about building relationships, and it was incredible to start meeting our generous donors who have profoundly impacted our community, helping to build Canada’s first smart hospital. These interactions, alongside our clinical colleagues who toured us through fascinating spaces, continue to inspire me.”
2. “When I came on board, the team was well into planning the 9th annual Ride for Mackenzie Health. Before I knew it, I was at the finish line, cheering on our cyclists. I’ve always found fundraising events exhilarating, but as my first signature event at Mackenzie Health Foundation this felt different — the spirit and generosity from our participants, coupled with the teamwork of our staff and volunteers, left a lasting impression on me.”
3. “Celebrating Mackenzie Health’s 60th anniversary at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital stands out. From York Central Hospital to our impressive two-site model, reflecting on our growth with staff, physicians, nurses and community leaders has been truly memorable.”
2 ‘AHA’ EXPERIENCES
1. “Our community’s growth underscores the Foundation’s vital role in supporting sustainable health care. Experiencing this firsthand has highlighted how essential our work is to ensure exceptional care continues.”
2. “Joining as The Ultimate Suits You campaign concluded, I realized the importance of continuing to boldly tell our story — because our work is not done. With hospital equipment funded solely by our community, the need for ongoing support is more vital than ever.”
1 UPCOMING PROJECT
1. “There’s a lot to be excited about this year. The work we are doing to support enhanced patient care at our hospitals, like refreshing spaces and expanding programs at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, as well as continued investments in the latest technology and equipment at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will make a significant difference in the way we provide care to our communities. Not to mention, the desire from our donors and community to help bring it all to life is simply incredible. Sharing the impact their generosity has on health care is something I can’t wait to continue to celebrate.
While I began my new chapter here a year ago, I feel as though we are just getting started. We have our new five-year strategic plan, which will act as our North Star, laying a strong foundation for future projects and enabling continued success along the way.”
