Baby Anhad was born at 2:45 a.m. at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital
Vaughan, ON (Jan. 1, 2025) — Today, Mackenzie Health welcomed its first baby of 2025 at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital – Anhad, born at 2:45 a.m., weighing 6 lbs, 2 oz. This is the first baby for proud parents Taranpreet and Vijayvir from Vaughan.
Anhad's arrival marks another milestone for Mackenzie Health’s Woman and Child Program, which offers a one-stop suite of services to support women and children through pregnancy and delivery to neonatal and pediatric care. In 2024, the labour and delivery team supported thousands of families in our rapidly growing community by delivering more than 4,300 babies, up from the 3,800 babies born at Mackenzie Health in 2023.
“Welcoming the first baby of the year is always a joyous occasion,” said Dr. Olamide Sobowale, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Medical Director of the Woman and Child Program at Mackenzie Health. “Our dedicated team is committed to ensuring that every family’s birth experience is special and as comfortable as can be for the family. We are honoured to be part of these life-changing moments.”
Mackenzie Health’s state-of-the-art facilities include birthing suites designed for comfort as well as advanced technology to support high-risk pregnancies. The program’s expert team of clinicians offers specialized care for babies and children right here in western York Region – there’s no need to go downtown. A team of specialists including obstetricians, pediatricians, midwives, neonatologists, maternal-fetal doctors for high-risk pregnancies, social workers, psychiatrists, diabetes co-ordinators and lactation consultants all work together to meet each family’s unique health care needs.
The program provides a full range of supports for mothers and children ranging from prenatal education, labour and delivery, postpartum support, neonatal care, including a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a pediatric inpatient unit. Families can also access a Pediatric Urgent Care Clinic at both Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, ensuring timely care for young patients.
