Reaching New Heights

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS

Left to Right: Rina Pillitteri, Ingrid Perry, Altaf Stationwala and Anthony Ianni.

We’re currently in one of the most, if not the most, exciting times in our organizations’ shared history. We’re incredibly proud, on behalf of both the hospital and Foundation, to share our recent advancements. Our achievements are truly collaborative ones, and behind each milestone is people – our staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and donors – who make it all possible. You’ll hear some of their stories here, and we appreciate their openness to share them with us.

The theme of our community report – Reaching New Heights – truly exemplifies this past year for many reasons – both literal and figurative.

Literally, we reached the highest point in our construction of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital – 11 storeys up. We celebrated this milestone in the fall of 2018 with staff, our government, community partners and our donors, and have since continued our momentum both outside and inside the hospital as each floor begins to take shape. In late 2020, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will join Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital as part of Mackenzie Health to double access to care for patients in our community.

We’ve also achieved new heights in other ways.

We received a $20 million joint gift from the De Gasperis and Kohn families to help us build a leading-edge learning facility. The Giovanni De Gasperis ♦ Eugene Kohn Learning Centre will be the most technologically advanced education facility within a Canadian community hospital.

We also became the first Canadian acute care hospital with an emergency department and intensive care unit to receive the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Stage 7 certification. This recognizes and celebrates the important role of innovation in empowering high-quality, safe patient care in a busy hospital environment.

As we advance our innovation agenda, the build of Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and our donor base, we know we must always keep our focus on our core business: providing compassionate and exemplary care to our patients. It is why we exist. All the work we do is in support of enhancing the care, services and programs we’re able to provide those in our community who rely on us. And we couldn’t be more proud of the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to make that a reality.
