Centre for Behaviour Health Sciences for Children and Families

Mackenzie Health's Centre for Behaviour Health Sciences provides care for individuals living in York Region or Simcoe County who have a developmental disability with a significant cognitive delay, autism or are living with the effects of an acquired brain injury. Services are offered within the community to individuals living in York Region or Simcoe County.

Service is determined by evaluation of needs and may be provided through individual and/or group support. Behaviour intervention is provided to children and adults through a comprehensive assessment followed by positive-based teaching and programming. A full range of challenging needs are addressed and include general management issues, aggression, self injury, skill promotion, and social problem solving.

Our behavioural services team works with individuals with a developmental disability in York Region or Simcoe County. In this program service delivery is matched to needs and may be provided through individual and/or group support. Following a behaviour assessment, a behaviour support plan is created that includes prevention, skill building and intervention strategies. Specific skills are taught using the mediator model.

Eligibility

To be eligible, children and adults must have a developmental disability with a significant cognitive delay who exhibits challenging behaviour that is interfering with their ability to participate in daily living activities. Service is available to individuals living within York Region or Simcoe County.

Mackenzie Health works directly with children and youth who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. Our programs use the principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) to support children and youth with ASD and work on the domains of social/interpersonal skills, communication, cognitive functions, school readiness, responsibility/adaptive, play and leisure, self-regulation, vocational skills and challenging behaviours. Our professionals work in a variety of different environments including homes, clinics and community settings.

Mackenzie Health has been delivering autism services in Ontario for more than 40 years and has the knowledge and expertise to help support children and youth with ASD and their families. Our highly qualified team consists of Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBAs), program coordinators, consultants/senior therapists, and instructor therapists. Additionally, our team works closely with other members of your child's interdisciplinary team, including but not limited to psychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists and teachers. The focus of the clinic is on promoting positive sexuality while reducing problematic sexual behaviours, through individualized assessment and treatment.

Eligibility

To be eligible, children and adults must have a confirmed intellectual disability and have engaged in concerning and/or offensive sexual behaviours.
