Using Technology to Deliver a Seamless Patient Experience

Hospital News – Power of Technology

With Mackenzie Health’s two-hospital model in full swing following the opening of Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital last year, you may be wondering how patient information is being shared between both sites to ensure a seamless patient experience.

Enter Epic.

In 2017, Mackenzie Health announced the launch of a new electronic medical record (EMR) implemented in collaboration with Epic — a world leader in medical record software and information technology. At the time, the software was the first full-suite Epic EMR to be installed in a Canadian hospital.

Providing digital access to each patient’s medical records, Epic EMR allows care team providers to access patient information faster, spend more time with each patient, make quicker health care decisions and collaborate more easily with other team members. It also allows patients to easily register for their appointments by swiping their health card at a Self-Serve Registration Kiosk.

Since its launch at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital five years ago, Epic EMR has significantly enhanced the patient experience — creating a quicker, safer and more efficient care environment for everyone.

Now, it’s also empowering seamless, world-class care for patients moving between our two hospital sites.

Fully implemented at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, Epic EMR makes it possible for health providers at both hospitals to access the same patient information and communicate quickly and effectively about a patient’s health care needs.

In practice, that means every patient’s EMR provides a comprehensive look at their health history, current health concerns, medications and other critical information at the touch of a button — and it’s available no matter which clinic or which hospital they’re visiting. It also reduces the risk of duplicating tests or prescribing medications that may have harmful interactions, and ensures patients are spending less time repeating answers to the same questions.

This is the power of technology — and the power of your generosity. Together, we are advancing an extraordinary new era of technology-enabled, community-based health care for everyone in York Region. Thank you!
