Community Engagement

Community consultation and engagement has been an integral part of our planning process.

Over the years, more than 4,000 people from our community have participated in open public and group consultation sessions, focus groups and online consultation opportunities.

We have also hosted a number of telephone town halls in recent years with each one reaching more than 10,000 residents of our community.

Mackenzie Health’s team regularly reaches out to a wide variety of community groups to engage and consult on the planning of future health care.

Our Board of Directors, President’s Community Advisory Council, Patient and Family Advisors and various other patient advisory committees provide community perspective and advice to guide the future development of enhanced health care services in our community.

We are dedicated to sharing plans and seeking community input to help shape the future of health care in York Region.

When construction officially started on the new Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital in October 2016, we made a commitment to keep municipal partners and the broader community updated on the operations of Mackenzie Health as a two-hospital organization. Since then, hospital leadership has continued to provide public updates to the community:

Mackenzie Health shared a project update with members of the Vaughan business community, including projections for construction jobs in the building of the hospital and expected employment and business opportunities.

In making the decision to name the new hospital in Vaughan after a donor, Mackenzie Health was required to meet a list of expectations outlined by the provincial government to respect the interests of the communities hospitals serve. These expectations included meaningful consultation with stakeholders in the community. In February 2020, stakeholder consultation sessions were held with a cross-section of community members, staff members and physicians to gather input and insight. The feedback we received was factored into our decision and approach to the naming announcement.
