Mental Health Outpatient Services for Adults

Mackenzie Health offers many outpatient programs and services for adults and families experiencing mental health challenges, as well as an adult inpatient mental health unit.

Aftercare Clinic

The Aftercare Clinic at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital includes nurses, psychiatrists and recreation therapists who work as a team to provide care to adults with a severe and persistent mental illness. The clinic provides care to patients receiving long-acting injections (LAIs) and also provides medication dispensing and monitoring for patients who are on clozapine.

 

Psychogeriatric Assessment Clinic

The Outpatient Psychogeriatric Assessment Clinic at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital provides comprehensive mental health assessment, treatment, and short-term follow-up for seniors experiencing an acute mental illness.

Adult Intake and Urgent Care Clinic (IUCC)

The Intake and Urgent Care Clinic is an outpatient clinic located at both Mackenzie Health hospital sites. The IUCC provides timely mental health assessments, treatment, and service recommendations to adult patients referred to the Mental Health Outpatient Services by their primary care providers. The clinic is comprised of a team of clinical social workers and an urgent care psychiatrist.

Integrated Mood Disorders Clinic

The Integrated Mood Disorders Clinic at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital is in partnership with Ontario Shores. This Ontario Shores operated clinic provides psychotherapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatment for patients with treatment resistant depression and are registered with the Mackenzie Health psychiatry outpatient service. TMS is a non-invasive treatment option, that is provided free of charge.

Please note patients must be actively receiving treatment by a Mackenzie Health psychiatrist to be referred to this program.

The Crisis Intervention Team is available 24/7 at both hospital sites. The Crisis Intervention Team provides assessment and intervention to patients who are receiving treatment in the Emergency Department and experiencing an acute mental health crisis.

The Stepping Stones Mental Health Day Hospital at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital provides assessment, stabilization and individual and group treatment and education programs for adult patients experiencing an acute mental illness.

Adult Outpatient Psychotherapy

Short-term individual and group psychotherapy for adult patients experiencing significant mental health challenges causing impairment in functioning. Patients receive an initial assessment and up to a maximum of 8 sessions of psychotherapy by a mental health clinician. This service is provided at our Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital site.

Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Consultation

This short-term intervention provides an assessment and medication consultation for individuals who are 18 years of age or older. This service is provided at both Mackenzie Health sites.

The new RBC Emergency Psychiatric Unit within the Magna Emergency Department at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital provides a safe, private, and comfortable area for patients and their families to receive rapid assessment and care by experienced mental health professionals. The space supports patient privacy and dignity in a calming environment while receiving mental health care in the Emergency Department.

Adult Mental Health Outpatient Services will accept clients who meet the following criteria:

  • Adults 18 years of age and older with significant symptoms of mental illness that are causing a severe impairment in functioning.
  • Must be referred by a physician or nurse practitioner.

Adult Mental Health Outpatient Services does NOT accept referrals for assessments/treatments where concerns are related principally to:

  • Legal or insurance issues
  • Active custody issues
  • Anger management
  • Behavioural disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Primary substance abuse
  • ADHD Assessment/Diagnosis

All services are fully covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

Clients are responsible for giving at least 24 hours advance notice of cancellations.

RAAM Clinic at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital

The RAAM Clinic is provided in partnership with Addiction Services of Central Ontario and provides rapid access to quality care to individuals seeking help for their substance use concerns such as opioids, alcohol, cannabis and cocaine.
The clinical team consists of an addiction medicine physician and/or nurse practitioner, nurses, case managers, addictions counsellors and peer support. An Ontario Health Card may be required.
