Mackenzie Health's Long-Term Care Centre provides a warm and comfortable environment for 170 residents. 

The move from a house to a long-term care home can be a difficult one - a time of major change for individuals and their families. At Mackenzie Health, together with UniversalCare Canada Inc. we go the extra mile to make that transition easier. We provide exceptional care to meet each resident's medical and personal needs. Every member of our staff is committed to providing compassionate care that respects the individuality and dignity of each person in our care.

Mackenzie Health and UniversalCare Canada Inc.are pleased to offer compassionate and resident-focused long-term care services. Our long-term care program is located on the third, fourth and fifth floors of Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital's A-Wing.

Through a multidisciplinary team, UniversalCare enhances the level of care and services for our residents by accessing an unprecedented blend of health care services and programs. In addition they provide the required leadership, support, value and partnership to enhance the quality of life of our residents and staff alike.

Residents of Mackenzie Health's Long-Term Care Centre enjoy a state-of-the-art facility, and also benefit from the close proximity to such valuable medical services such dialysis, geriatric consultation and emergency medicine services. On-site extended medical coverage further enhances the quality of care and services.

Modern and Attractive Facilities

Long-term care facilities are provided on the third, fourth and fifth floors of Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital's A-Wing. This beautiful and spacious facility features:

  • Resident rooms with conveniently located lounges with adjoining outdoor patios that are accessible for residents and families;
  • Tastefully decorated rooms designed to accommodate pictures, bedspreads and small pieces of furniture from home;
  • 70 comfortable private rooms with private bathrooms;
  • 23 standard rooms designed for those individuals who enjoy the pleasure of one another's company;
  • Delicious, nutritious meals served in brightly lit dining rooms;
  • Call bells in all rooms provide immediate assistance;
  • Wanderguard Resident Safety System to ensure the safety of all residents; and
  • Coffee shop, hairdresser and multi-faith meditation room.

Applying for Admission to Our Long-Term Care Facility

Anyone who is approved for long-term care by Home and Community Care is eligible to be a resident at Mackenzie Health's Long-Term Care Facility.

Co-Payment and Funding Information

The Ministry of Long-Term Care provides funding for long-term care facilities. The amount paid by residents for their accommodation is called a "co-payment," which varies according to the accommodation type.

Below are current co-payment rates effective August 1, 2020 as determined by the Ministry of Long-Term Care. The co-payment rates change yearly as published by MOHLTC.

Standard Accommodation

Daily Maximum Co-Payment for Standard Accommodation is $62.18

Maximum Monthly Co-Payment for Standard Accommodation is $1,891.31

Private Accommodation

For requested preferred accommodation (semi private or private):

  • Room rate for Semi Private Accommodation is $65.00
  • Room rate for Private Accommodation is $95.00

Rate Reductions for Residents Residing in Standard Accommodation

If your income is not sufficient to pay the maximum accommodation co-payment for the long-term stay program, you may be eligible to apply for a reduced rate or "Rate Reduction." Long-term care staff can assist you with this process upon admission.

Residents under the age of 65, residents with lower incomes or residents who have spouses or partners who are living in the community may be eligible to apply for additional benefits or qualify for an "Exceptional Circumstances Reduction."

Canada Revenue Agency

Being cared for in a nursing home is considered to be a medical expense for a person with a disability and as such may qualify you for a personal tax credit. Please seek professional guidance or review with your local Canada Revenue Agency for details.

You will need to familiarize yourself with taxation form T2201, Disability Tax Credit Certificate, which can be pre-approved at anytime during the year by completing and sending to your local taxation office.
