Hidden History: Slavery in Canada (Pre-recorded Webinar)
Virtual talk led by McMichael Chief Curator Sarah Milroy and guest speakers Gaëtane Verna, Director of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and art historian Charmaine Nelson, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Transatlantic Black Diasporic Art and Community Engagement at NSCAD University.
Denyse Thomasos (1964–2012) was a Trinidadian-Canadian artist whose epic paintings incorporate imagery from a range of sources including Caribbean textiles, historic slave ships, industrial shipyards, graveyards, villages and maximum security prisons. Denyse Thomasos: Odyssey celebrates the artist’s historic contribution to Canadian art, inviting a deeper understanding of the histories her paintings reflect.
